Visit our parent web site for a look at the many spectacular Ice Sculptures created by teams from all over the globe. The yearly month long ice competition draws the best artists from around the world to this park to take part in one of the world’s largest Ice Carving competitions.

Ice Museum

Enjoy the ‘Coolest Show in Town’ at our sister site the Ice Museum. The Ice Showcase is an 8,000 cubic foot walk-in display case that maintains a constant temperature of 20 degrees. Inside is the result of thousands of hours of work on over 40,000 lbs. of world-famous Fairbanks ice. The sculptures can be viewed from a warm comfortable auditorium, through the glass fronted cases.

 

Gold Dredge #8

Ice Park Campground is just a short drive from this old mechanical gold dredge. It took millions in gold out of the frozen Alaskan ground. You can experience gold panning, tour the dredge with a guide, and enjoy a miners stew for lunch

Pioneer Park

 Ice Park Campground is just a short walk from the Chena river. Crossing the river is a foot bridge and a few feet beyond you'll discover Pioneer Park. This free access public park contains many restored original log cabins built by early settlers, now converted to shops. There are museums, theaters, and food available. A must see park.

 

Paddle Wheel Riverboat tours...

Enjoy a few hours cruising the Chena river on an authentic paddle wheel riverboat. We have a couple boats here in Fairbanks that are active during the summer season. Enjoy either an educational tour of the river or a dinner cruise with one of the best all you can eat buffet meals around town.

 

Chena Hot Springs

About 60 miles outside of Fairbanks is Chena Hot Springs resort which has managed to create an entirely new method of renewable energy in the far north using the relatively low temperature water available (185°F) from their hot springs. Their system has cost them over $2 million so far but it supplies all their heating and electrical needs. There is hot spring bathing, rooms for the night, an Ice museum, and a quiet place to relax. There is even a landing strip if you have a plane. Worth the visit.

Vacation Alaska Wilderness

If you are looking for a true Alaskan adventure, visit the 1st Alaska Outdoor School, owned and run by our friend Ralf. Here you can really be the outdoor person you’ve dreamed about while you stay at this hostel. It’s remote enough that it takes 3 hours to hike in! While there, enjoy the wilderness survival training Ralf gives you. You can park your RV at our park for a low $5 per day while you’re at Ralf’s place.
